All Age Athletes
In P.E. we are aiming to increase the children’s participation in outdoor activities and competitive team sports.
A Gymnast’s Body Awareness - Reception
In Reception, the focus on gymnastics emphasised developing basic body control through movement and balance. Children were encouraged to explore a variety of positions, such as balancing on different body parts, rolling, and performing simple stretches. This foundation helps them gain greater awareness of their body’s movement and coordination. Activities are designed to improve spatial awareness, flexibility, and strength, while also promoting confidence as they explored controlled movement through fun and engaging challenges.
Outdoor Adventurous Activities - Year 2
In Year 2, with coaches, Outdoor Adventurous Activities provided students with opportunities to engage in problem-solving and teamwork, while developing their physical fitness and resilience. Children participated in activities such as orienteering and obstacle courses, which allowed them to explore their environment safely. These activities promote essential skills such as navigation, communication, and risk assessment, all while encouraging teamwork and potentially cultivating a love for outdoor exploration.
Bowls, Bats, Fields - Year 4
In Year 4, with coaches, students began to develop their understanding and skills in cricket, focusing on both individual techniques and team collaboration. They learned the basics of bowling, batting, and fielding, with these skills broken down into distinct steps to success. Through participation in modified games, children built their ability to work as a team, support one another, and understand the rules of the game. This not only enhanced their physical skills but also helped to cultivate sportsmanship and a sense of fair play.
Teamwork and Opposition - Year 5
In Year 5, with coaches, children learned how to be in the ready stance, the different passes and the relevant scenarios for each pass. This culminated in them putting all of their learning into practice by competing in teams of 4, where they had to not only try to score the most but also prevent the opposing team from scoring.
